Single Status Affidavit — Online Notarization in Ontario
Often required when marrying abroad, this sworn statement confirms that you are not currently married.
Many countries require proof that a person is legally free to marry before they will register a foreign marriage. Since Canada has no central marriage registry that easily confirms this, a sworn Single Status Affidavit is the document most commonly used instead.
Bring the affidavit to your appointment unsigned. The commissioner verifies your photo ID, witnesses your signature, and applies the seal — the document is then ready to submit to the relevant foreign authority.
Commissioned in accordance with O. Reg. 431/20. Requirements for foreign marriage registration vary widely by country, so we recommend confirming exactly what is needed with the receiving authority or embassy before your appointment.
